The supply issues stem from the implementation of a novel manufacturing process intended to minimize the bezel size on the upcoming iPhones. This challenge seems reminiscent of a previous situation Apple faced with certain Apple Watch models.
According to reports, the displays manufactured by LG for the iPhone 15 Pro, especially the Pro Max variant, are facing reliability issues during a crucial process where the display is fused to the metal shell. To address this problem, Apple is actively making modifications to the design of the LG-produced displays to ensure they pass the necessary tests. However, as a contingency plan, Apple has Samsung-manufactured displays ready to be used in the assembly process if required.
Despite efforts to resolve the issues, it is anticipated that the supply constraints will lead to a restricted number of units available at the initial launch of the new iPhones. Among the models, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is likely to be the most challenging to obtain, closely followed by the iPhone 15 Pro.
Contrary to a different report from before, the possibility of Apple postponing the iPhone launch by several weeks is now being contested by this new source. Instead, the focus is on the hypothesis of limited availability, attributing it to supply constraints. Nevertheless, the certainty remains that display-related challenges are having an impact on Apple's plans for the launch.
